North Texas District-Lakeview Camp Phone System Upgrade
North Texas Assemblies of God District(northtexas.ag) office is located off HWY 66 in between Waxahachie and Maypearl, Texas. The office of the North Texas District Council of the Assemblies of God services over 600 churches in the largest district in the General Council of the Assemblies of God.
In addition to serving over 600 churches, they also oversee Lakeview Camp(lakeviewcamp.net) located right across the street. The longtime dream of Derwood DuBose opened its doors in 1997. Since then Lakeview Camp has become a vital ministry tool for churches of all denominations, schools, businesses and the local community.
The offices and the camp are always striving to make necessary changes or add new aspects to their facilities to ensure that they stay up-to-date on the ever-changing world around them. That’s why they were initially an IT Support client with us, but then quickly realized there were some changes that needed to be made to upgrade their phone systems.
North Texas Assemblies of God District offices and Lakeview Camp were on an old analog/digital hybrid Mitel phone system, that they were paying too much for in monthly bills. The programming for the phone system was extremely complicated and required an expensive service call to get done. They had a standard, 66 block phone system that connected about 20 cabins and more than 100 lodge rooms. To replace this with new CAT6 wiring would be very costly so we had to come up with a solution that could use the existing wiring.
What they needed was a simple system, something that allowed them to communicate between facilities as well as other locations at Lakeview Camp; conference rooms, lodge rooms, pool etc.
We upgraded 65 phones(45 of them at the NTD offices and 20 office phones at Lakeview) to Yealink SIP-T42S IP phone system. This phone system is a 12-line IP phone that enhances productivity with multiple programmable keys. We also upgraded 3 receptionist phones to the Yealink SIP-T48G that features 29 single touch DSS keys, Optima HD, a PoE Gigabit Ethernet expansions port, and Bluetooth headset support with a 7-inch touchscreen.
The PBX is a virtual VMware cluster built with 3CX on Linux. The system provides an easy to use web interface and allows the end users to customize their settings without any formal training.
We used the existing analog phones(120 of them) that were in the cabins and lodges, converting them to digital extensions. We installed 3 receptionist phones at Lakeview Camp that is set up on a hotel module phone system which allows them to answer calls from individual rooms, call a specific room directly, and transfer calls to a specific room.
We installed a new rack to house all the new PBX as well as a Battery Backup for redundancy. The PBX is the brains behind this upgrade and has helped to take what once was a chaotic mess into a smooth operation.
There are multiple facilities onsite that needed to be connected via Ubiquiti wireless radios due to the rural setting in which they are located. We were able to provide the stability they needed so that it seemed like they were in the middle of a big city instead of in the country.
